A Continental Airlines Boeing 747 en route to Honolulu experienced a malfunction in one of its four engines just after takeoff from Los Angeles International Airport, authorities said. The plane dumped its fuel over the ocean and returned to the airport. No one was hurt. The 372 passengers were accommodated on a later flight, said Jim Brigance, a Continental spokesman in Houston. Officials could not immediately say what caused the malfunction in the No. 2 engine. The craft, Flight No. 1, took off at 8:50 p.m. and returned at 9:05 p.m.
