Celebrities Join Fun at Starscene

When Charity Starscene ’87 takes over North Hollywood Park this weekend, it should be a something-for-everyone extravaganza. For the youngest visitors, there will be pony rides and a petting zoo. For their parents, the Cadillacs. For their grandparents, Horace Heidt Jr.’s swing band.
There will be three stages offering continuous entertainment: the Bonedaddies, gospel music, a tap-off tribute to Louis Da Pron. One stage will be set aside for children’s shows and will include Peter Alsop telling fairy tales, actor Carl Weintraub, marionettes and puppets.
Inside the celebrity photo tent, visitors may have their pictures taken with their idols. On Saturday, celebrities will include stars from “The Golden Girls,” “L.A. Law,” “Married With Children” and “Mr. President.” Sunday, there will be soap stars from “Santa Barbara,” “Days of Our Lives,” “The Young and the Restless” and “General Hospital.”
The finalists have already been selected for the talent show, which begins at 6 p.m. Saturday. Hosted by Juliet Prowse, it will showcase amateurs in three categories: children, teen-agers and seniors.
Adding to the festivities are a dance pavilion with a disc jockey, animals from the Wildlife Way-station, carnival rides, classic cars from Chuck Barris’ collection and ethnic food booths.
North Hollywood Park is at Magnolia Boulevard and Tujunga Avenue. Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. today and noon to 9 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $1.50 for adults; children are free.
