Also on the festival circuit, the odd low-budget director John Waters will be getting his own tribute locally on Oct. 23 at the downtown Variety Arts Center. Eric Caidin, owner of the Hollywood Book and Poster Shop, is planning the second installment of his “Incredibly Strange Film Festival,” with Waters introducing his notoriously tasteless “Pink Flamingos,” “Polyester,” “Desperate Living” and “Female Trouble.”
Caidin is also trying to line up stars of the magnitude of Pia Zadora.
The first tribute, last January, honored schlockmaker Herschel Gordon Lewis (“Blood Feast”). It was so successful, Caidin now plans a monthly event, with Russ Meyer the featured director in November.
Come December, it’ll be four auteurs : Al Adamson (“Satan’s Sadists”), Ted V. Mikels (“The Corpse Grinders”), Larry Buchanan (numerous remakes of AIP classics) and Ray Dennis Steckler (“Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies”).
