Sikh Gunmen Kill 5 in Punjab; 3-Day Toll 20

CHANDIGARH, India — Sikh extremists firing submachine guns from motor scooters killed five people Saturday and wounded at least 12 others in the northern state of Punjab, police said, bringing the three-day toll in such attacks to 20.
Police said the gunmen sped into the marketplace of Nawan Sharhar, 50 miles northwest of the Punjab capital of Chandigarh, and opened fire on customers at a tea shop. They also fire at bystanders outside the store as they sped away.
