Open Space to Be Kept at New Civic Center
- Share via
As a compact urban city, West Hollywood values its existing parks. However, concern was raised in a recent letter to the editor regarding locating its civic center in a park.
The site, West Hollywood Park, currently contains a number of structures, including an auditorium, library, public health center and parking lots. The open space in the park is limited, and we feel that a civic center can be built without sacrificing the parkland.
In fact, the criteria for the civic center design emphasizes our commitment to retaining the existing amount of open space and improving upon its present configuration.
We share the concern of the supporters of open urban spaces, and will only approve using the park site for our civic center if we can retain or increase the amount of the park and recreational space.
