PRO FOOTBALL / Week 2 : Raiders Get Paper Lions in Home Opener : With Williams Off Block, Raiders Look Elsewhere
- Share via
Which way might the Raiders jump, now that quarterback Doug Williams is starting for the Washington Redskins and apparently unavailable?
A source says they have called the principals in the Chris Miller and Kelly Stouffer negotiations to inquire what progress has been made.
Both Miller and Stouffer were No. 1 picks and both talks are stalled, Miller’s with the Atlanta Falcons, Stouffer’s with the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Raiders worked both out before the draft and were said to be high on both. Stouffer, a big, rifle-armed type from Colorado State, was considered a particularly hot Raider prospect.
However, the Cardinals took Stouffer with the sixth pick and the Falcons took Miller with the 13th, before the Raiders selected 15th.
