ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Demetrius Brown, one week after a disastrous debut as Michigan quarterback, justified his starting job with a turnaround performance Saturday by passing for one touchdown and running for another to lead the Wolverines to a 44-18 rout Washington State.
Brown completed 8 of 13 passes for 174 yards, one week after throwing 3 interceptions and only 4 completions in a loss to Notre Dame.
Michigan sealed the victory with 24 points in the third quarter, including Brown’s 12-yard touchdown dash and scoring runs of 2 and 1 yards by tailback Jamie Morris.
Washington State (2-1) made things uncomfortable initially for Michigan (1-1) with quick passes. Cougar quarterback Timm Rosenbach completed 30 of 49 for 334 yards and 2 touchdowns, but also threw 3 interceptions. Two of the interceptions, along with a fumble by punt returner Tim Stallworth and a pass interference penalty, helped resulted in 24 points by Michigan.
