Community College Roundup : Rancho Santiago Cross-Country Team Wins

Rancho Santiago’s men’s cross-country team and Orange Coast College’s women’s cross-country team were victorious for the second week in a row. The teams, both fresh from victories at the Fresno Invitational, captured first place in their divisions of the Mira Costa Invitational Saturday.
Rancho Santiago finished with 61 points, led by Dave Moore, who finished fourth in 20:57. OCC finished fourth in the men’s division with 126 points.
In the women’s competition, OCC’s Tracy Wright won her race in 19:52 and the Pirates finished with 30 points. Saddleback women placed third with 87 points.
In water polo action:
Golden West def. Saddleback 7-6; Long Beach def. Golden West 9-8--Golden West finished second in the Cuesta Tournament behind first-place Long Beach. Jeff Wines and Scott Larsen each scored two goals in the Rustlers’ victory over Saddleback and Greg Douglas scored three goals and Larsen added another pair in the losing effort against Long Beach. Goalie Tim Bogdonovich had a total of 17 saves on the day. The Rustlers’ record is 4-1.
In women’s soccer:
Orange Coast College def. Foothill, 3-1--The Pirates trailed, 1-0, early in the game, but came back behind the scoring of Pamela Lewin (two goals) and Renee Barteski (one goal).
