Ruben Aguirre rushed for 204 yards and a touchdown to lead St. Genevieve to a 34-6 nonleague victory over Paraclete on Saturday night at Birmingham High.
Aguirre had rushed for only 47 yards when the Valiants were shut out by Quartz Hill last week.
“He did a better job running. His head was up and he made better cuts this time,” St. Genevieve Coach Lindon Crow said.
Aguirre scored his touchdown on the Valiants’ second play. He took a handoff, found a hole in the left side, cut back to the middle and sprinted 70 yards down the right sideline for the score.
Aguirre had 124 yards by the end of the first half. Although he didn’t score again, Aguirre twice brought the Valiants (1-1) inside the Paraclete five-yard line, where Chad Russell and D. J. Vlaming scored on 1- and 2-yard runs, respectively.
Santa Clara 19, Moorpark 7--The Knight brothers of Santa Clara stole the show as they led the Saints to a nonleague victory at Oxnard High.
Ken Knight, a senior, rushed for 22 yards on five carries, including a one-yard touchdown plunge late in the third quarter to break a 7-7 tie.
His brother Kwinn, a sophomore, returned a punt 70 yards for a touchdown to end the third quarter. In addition to rushing for 62 yards on nine carries, Kwinn Knight’s two interceptions late in the fourth quarter sealed the Saints’ victory.
Moorpark’s only score came on a four-yard pass from Keith Orford to Matt Cummings that tied the score, 7-7, in the third quarter.
