The Steinbrenner Shuttle to Columbus Will Continue Service for Another Year

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The New York Yankees have agreed to continue their affiliation with the Columbus Clippers of the International League for another year, Clippers General Manager George Sisler says.
It’s definite with the Yankees,” he said Tuesday. “We’ve renewed our working agreement for one year. I’ve talked to (Yankees owner) George Steinbrenner twice today and I’ve talked to (Yankees executive) Woody Woodward, and it’s definite.”
Major league teams and their minor league affiliates are supposed to notify each other between Aug. 15 and Sept. 15 if either party chooses not to renew a player development contract.
The 1988 International League season will be the 10th in a row in which the Clippers have been the Yankees’ top farm club. Columbus has finished first in the IL regular-season standings in five of its nine years as a Yankee affiliate and has won the Governors’ Cup postseason title four times in that span, including this year.
