‘Bypassing Peace’ in Nicaragua

Again we have been provided with a clear example of the hypocritical and disingenuous nature of President Reagan.
In his welcoming address to Pope John Paul II in Miami, Reagan put on his most sincere face and acted out his hackneyed and shop-worn lines about wanting peace in Central America and throughout the world.
At about the same time that the great “con-municator” was attempting to bamboozle the Pope with his litany of empty rhetoric, Secretary of State George Shultz was testifying before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that the Reagan Administration intended to request $270 million in additional aid for the contras. Of course, this request will be made by the President knowing full well that he intends to sabotage any regional peace accord that does not conform to his desired agenda.
How much longer must we endure this type of deceitful behavior before the American people (the Congress included) finally say enough?
