Border Patrol agents seized 1,235 pounds of marijuana valued at nearly $1 million and impounded two vehicles Saturday afternoon, Supervisory Agent Mike Gregg said.
Agents discovered the marijuana after searching a truck that had crossed the border illegally and joined another vehicle just west of the Otay Mesa port of entry, Gregg said.
Ismael Barron Corona, 28, a legal resident alien from Mexico and Jorge Gonzalez Alaniz, 27, a U.S. citizen, were arrested on suspicion of importing a controlled substance and booked in the Metropolitan Correctional Center early Sunday morning.
Alaniz is also suspected of transporting a stolen vehicle. Both are San Diego residents.
The seizure brings the total value of drugs confiscated at the border so far this fiscal year to more than $21 million, Gregg said.
