The vacancy created by the resignation of Councilman William Jones will not be filled until his successor is elected Nov. 3, the San Diego City Council decided Monday.
Council members voted unanimously to leave the 4th District chair vacant, and promised to give Jones’ staff its support in the next six weeks.
They also voted to name Councilwoman Gloria McColl as deputy mayor, a largely ceremonial post that Jones held until his resignation to attend Harvard University Business School.
