Police said they are following several leads in their hunt for an arsonist responsible for weekend fires that burned three landmark buildings on Fort Bragg’s Main Street. Two fires burned the Mendocino County Library, a sheriff’s substation and the Piedmont, an Italian restaurant. The library, constructed of redwood, contained 20,000 books, including a rare 20-volume Bancroft “History of California” from the turn of the century. “It was all insured, but whether the insurance was adequate, we’ll just have to see,” said County Librarian Norman Hallam.
