Quakes Shake Ecuador Capital

QUITO, Ecuador — Three earthquakes shook this Andean capital today, sending frightened residents and office workers into the streets. Police said there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The first quake occurred at 8:43 a.m. and was followed by a smaller tremor, the Quito Astronomic Observatory said. The U.S. Geological Survey reported a tremor at about that time that registered 6.0 on the Richter scale. A third earthquake was felt in Quito at 11:23 a.m., the Quito observatory reported.
