Talk show host Phil Donahue and Soviet journalist Vladimir Posner were among those honored by cable-TV pioneer Ted Turner’s Better World Society. In announcing awards for Donahue and Posner, Turner told a news conference: “We’re joined by some individuals who are making determined, effective efforts to nurture our planet, and to make the lives of its people more hopeful and secure.” Turner formed the organization in 1985 to address such issues as overpopulation, environmental concerns and the nuclear arms race.
