The state Transportation Commission has allocated $996,000 for improvements on a portion of Garden Grove Boulevard east of Bolsa Chica Road to just west of Beach Boulevard. The work will be administered by the city.
Jerry Kenny, deputy city administrator and public works director for Westminster, said that the project will involve resurfacing the street, installing traffic signals and widening the railroad crossing at the intersection of Hoover Street and Garden Grove Boulevard.
He said that the road should remain open during most of the work and that he hopes to see the work completed by July.
The road, which is maintained by California Department of Transportation, will be relinquished to the city when the work is complete.
