PHILADELPHIA — The NFL today called off this weekend’s games and the league’s chief negotiator said today that both sides are so far apart in the football strike that it may take two months to reach a contract settlement.
“I think we have six to eight weeks of hard bargaining remaining,” Jack Donlan, executive director of the NFL Management Council, said with the walkout entering its third day. NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle said the 14 games Sunday and Monday night would be called off.
