San Diego Community College Football : Palomar, Mesa Play Saturday

Sophomore quarterback Jeff Sturch will lead San Diego Mesa College at home against Palomar at 7:30 Saturday night as play begins in the Mission Conference.
Sturch was 30 of 50 for 317 yards and 3 touchdowns but also had 5 interceptions as Mesa lost to Cerritos, 30-20, in the season opener Sept. 12 at Cerritos.
Palomar counters with quarterback Mark Heintschel, who was 18 of 30 for 152 yards and 2 touchdowns in the Comets’ 45-24 victory over Monterey Peninsula last Saturday.
In other games:
Grossmont plays host to Saddleback at 7:30. Grossmont--led by quarterback Mike Jordan, who threw for 270 yards and 3 touchdowns--defeated Mt. San Antonio, 30-23, last Saturday.
Saddleback, which was the coaches’ preseason conference favorite along with Riverside, was upset by El Camino, 21-16, last Saturday.
San Diego City travels to Southwestern in a game that features two strong running teams. City is led by tailback Kevin Key, who rushed for 97 yards and a touchdown in 15 carries, but the Knights lost to Mt. San Jacinto, 27-23, Sept. 12.
Southwestern, which defeated Santa Monica, 23-14, last week was led by running back Tony Herd, who had 91 yards and a touchdown in 15 carries.
