During a two-day surprise inspection on the Simi Valley Freeway, the California Highway Patrol ordered off the road 139 trucks that had bad brakes or other dangerous mechanical problems, authorities said. Officers conducted 302 inspections Tuesday and Wednesday on the Simi Valley Freeway at Gabert Street in Moorpark, issuing 253 citations and ordering 139 drivers to fix their trucks before continuing to their destinations, the CHP said. Several unhappy truckers were forced to have their trucks towed to repair facilities. On Wednesday alone, 80 commercial vehicles were ordered out of service until they were brought up to code, the CHP said, adding that most of them involved brakes that were not in working order.
