General Mills Inc. warned parents to discard or keep young children away from the “powerball” toy that comes in 15- and 20-ounce boxes of Cheerios. The ball reportedly was involved in the choking death of a 1-year-old child. Four other incidents were reported but injuries did not occur. Company officials said shipments were voluntarily halted and steps were taken to remove about 5 million boxes on retail shelves or in the control of General Mills or its distributors. The Consumer Product Safety Commission said the balls meet all regulations.
