One hundred of Canada’s top athletes, covering a 60-year span of Olympic competition, have been appointed to help bring the Olympic flame to Calgary.
The organizing committee for the 1988 Winter Games announced its selections from among almost 400 Olympic athletes, past and present.
All wanted to participate as runners in the torch relay, which will begin in Newfoundland in less than three months.
Ferd Hayward, a marathon runner in the 1952 Games, will be the first out of the blocks to start the 12,250-mile trek to the opening ceremonies at McMahon Stadium Feb. 13.
