Estancia Grinds Out Win Over Los Amigos

Estancia High School used a stubborn defense and the running of Joshua Wojtkiewicz and Greg Schabarum to earn its second win in a row Friday night, beating Los Amigos, 18-7, at Davidson Field in Newport Beach.
The Eagle defense held Los Amigos to 20 yards rushing in the second half--and just 74 for the game. Wojtkiewicz and Schabarum combined for 104 of Estancia’s 187 yards on 27 carries. Most of that yardage came right up the middle behind sophomore center Chris Coons and senior guards Tony Le and Ryan Van Akin.
“We’re playing good football right now,” said Estancia Coach John Liebengood. “Our line is opening holes and our backs are becoming consistent. And on defense, we’re tackling people. Last year, we were giving up 35 points a game. This year, the kids are working hard.”
Estancia junior punt returner Mark Hartley broke open a scoreless game late in the first quarter by returning an Andy Baturevich punt 45 yards for an Eagle touchdown.
