ORANGE COUNTY PREP FOOTBALL : Chino’s Offense, Defense Overwhelm Garden Grove, 35-7

Chino High School rolled to its third straight victory with a 35-7 romp over Garden Grove before 900 at Garden Grove High School.
Chino opened the scoring in the first quarter when Dan Balabis took a punt on the Chino 25-yard line and scampered 75 yards down the sidelines for a touchdown. Joe Velarde kicked the extra point to make it 7-0, Chino.
With 5:16 left in the quarter, Chino scored again when a Garden Grove fake kick failed and Chino took over on the Argonauts’ 16-yard line.
Garden Grove (1-2) scored its only touchdown with 32 seconds left in the first quarter. All-league halfback Bryan McGinley ran three yards for the score, capping a 12-play scoring drive. Billy Moll’s extra point kick made it 14-7.
In the third quarter, Chino added two more touchdowns. With 6:37 left, Cowboy defensive back Eric Hill intercepted a Mike Moore pass on his own five and returned it to the 50. Four plays later, Ron Velarde ran 15 yards for the score.
