BUSINESS EXPANDS

The Times on Monday launches a major expansion of the Business section. With two additional pages of space for news and features every day, the expansion will permit more complete coverage, particularly of business in Southern California, and allow greater use of graphics.
A redesigned Monday section will highlight business in California and around the Pacific Basin, with profiles of the region’s business personalities and their companies, a front-page “Footnotes” column providing a quick and lively look at what’s happening in the area and a full page called “Monday Report” devoted to a single business trend. The Monday section will include new tables on activity in regional stocks, local economic trends, bankruptcies and stock trading by executives.
The larger Business section also will allow additional in-depth reports and features during the rest of the week. Saturday’s section, for example, will emphasize personal finance, with a new Page 1 column on money matters and Page 3 featuring the question-and-answer Money Talk column, an expanded Key Rates table on loan and deposit rates and a rundown of stocks in the news.
The expansion will involve a change in the schedule for some regular columns. The new schedule is as follows: James Flanigan’s column will run on Wednesday and Sunday; Board of Economists, Sunday; Harry Bernstein’s Labor column and Bruce Horovitz’s Marketing column, Tuesday; Computer File, Thursday, and S. J. Diamond’s column, Friday.
The daily People column also will be enhanced. Certain financial tables, particularly options, will receive better display.
