Memorial Set for Organist Edwin Flath

SAN FRANCISCO — A memorial concert was planned for Edwin Flath, founder of the California Bach Society and a concert organist, who died at age 57.
A native of Toronto, Flath studied at the Royal Conservatory at Toronto University and with Arthur Poister at Syracuse University. Flath, who gave concerts in both the United States and Canada, won numerous competitions sponsored by the American Guild of Organists. He founded the society in San Francisco in 1971.
Flath died in his home Thursday. He is survived by a sister in Toronto.
A memorial concert by the California Bach Society and the Hamburg Bach Choir was scheduled for Oct. 16 at St. Ignatius Church.
