Monroe 7, Grant 6--In a nonleague City Section opening game at Grant that featured nine fumbles, Monroe committed one less turnover and converted one extra point.
Grant quarterback Nigel Carmichael fumbled in his end zone and linebacker Scott Reisbord recovered to tie the score, 6-6, with 9:20 left. Albert Ramirez, who replaced Jeff Guerra (pulled hamstring), then kicked the winning point.
