USD Gets Second Consecutive Shutout

SAN DIEGO — Junior free safety Bryan Day had two interceptions, returning them for a total of 57 yards, to lead the University of San Diego to a 28-0 victory over La Verne Saturday night in the Toreros’ home opener in front of 3,650.
Last week, USD (2-0) defeated Redlands College, 28-0. These were the first back-to-back shutouts for USD since 1982.
Running back Todd Jackson opened the scoring in the second quarter, when he ran off tackle for a two-yard touchdown. In the third quarter, Scott Slykas ran around end and beat the La Verne secondary, scoring on a 32-yard run.
La Verne is 0-2.
