San Diego College Roundup : SDSU Loses in Volleyball in 5th Game

UC Irvine scored seven straight points in the fifth game to defeat San Diego State, 8-15, 8-15, 15-6, 15-12, 15-12, in a Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. women’s volleyball match Saturday at Irvine.
In the final game, SDSU (1-3 in PCAA, 4-7 overall) had a 12-8 advantage before Irvine closed out the match.
Kris Roberts led UCI with 17 kills. Jackie Mendez had 24 kills for SDSU, and Angelica Jackson added 21.
In other volleyball matches:
Pepperdine 3, United States International 0--Julie Evans had 23 kills at Pepperdine. The hosts won, 15-7, 15-5, 16-14. Claudia Johnson led USIU (12-4) with 14 kills and Nancy Dome had 13. Pepperdine, the 13th-ranked team in NCAA Division I, is 4-3.
Westmont 3, Point Loma Nazarene 0--Westmont College, led by Joanna Rathbun’s 16 kills, won, 15-2, 17-15, 15-4, in a Golden State Athletic Conference match at Point Loma Nazarene. Lisa Vander Feer had 12 kills for Point Loma (1-2, 6-7). Westmont is 2-1, 7-6.
In soccer matches:
Grand Canyon 3, Point Loma Nazarene 1--Chris Little’s goal seven minutes into the match gave Point Loma Nazarene (3-2-1) an early lead, but host Grand Canyon rallied for the nonconference victory. Grand Canyon is 5-1.
