Huntington Beach : City Council to Discuss Pier Redevelopment
- Share via
The City Council will meet at 6 p.m. today in the council chambers to discuss the progress of several projects in the redevelopment area near the city pier.
City Planner Hal Simmons said the meeting was scheduled so the council could give “direction for staff as to what to do next on the projects--which to proceed with and which to put on the back burner.”
City Administrator Charles Thompson, “who had been providing the push and direction on the projects, is leaving, and there is some growing opposition to some of the projects,” Simmons noted.
Thompson, who announced his retirement in July, leaves in mid-October. His permanent replacement is being sought.
Staff planners will make presentations on projects including Pierside Village, the Main Street retail development and the Townsquare plan.
The appointment of a city treasurer also is scheduled for discussion.
