The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County has appointed the first curator of the William S. Hart Park Museum in Newhall.
Katherine Child has worked for the Natural History Museum for three years and since March has supervised the first inventory of the Hart Park museum’s contents, which includes the silent film star’s collection of Western arts and artifacts.
As curator of the 233-acre estate, Child will continue the inventory project through the spring and develop a conservation program for its contents, museum officials said.
The board of trustees of the Natural History Museum will sponsor a reception for Child on Oct. 10 at the Hart Park Museum.
Hart bequeathed the Spanish-style villa and its grounds to the county when he died in 1946.
