Christine MacIntyre; Adviser on Fitness

The editor of Shape magazine, one of the country’s more successful physical fitness publications, was one of two women killed when a runaway truck ran into their cars in Malibu Sept. 16, it was learned last week.

Christine M. MacIntyre, a former professor at Pasadena City College and lecturer in the Department of Kinesiology at UCLA, where she developed one of the first weight-training programs for women, was 48. She had started the magazine for fitness expert Joe Weider in 1981 and it had grown to a circulation of 678,000 at her death, he said.

Mrs. MacIntyre, who is survived by her husband, Don, and two children, was a consultant to the President’s Council on Physical Fitness, the Greater Los Angeles Nutrition Council, the California Department of Health, Recreation and Physical Education and the National Assn. for Health, Physical Education and Recreation.
