Two people were rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard seconds before their $35,000 sailboat sank about noon Monday in calm seas 2 1/2 miles off Rancho Palos Verdes’ Point Vicente, authorities said.
The 28-foot sailboat “Spartacus” sank after its propeller was torn off while entangled with one of the crab pots that dot the ocean in the area, leaving a hole in its hull, Coast Guard spokesman Charles Embleton said.
The crew members, identified as William J. Walsh of Hollywood and Geoffrey Desio of Granada Hills, were uninjured, Embleton said.
