Washington Redskin officials said that quarterback Tony Robinson, who was convicted last year on cocaine delivery charges, has been cleared to play in the National Football League.
Robinson, a former University of Tennessee standout who was convicted in November 1986, was given permission to play after a meeting with NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle.
“I wasn’t worried about anything,” Robinson said of his meeting. “I felt pretty good about it.”
Robinson joined other non-union free agents as the Redskins prepared for Sunday’s game against St. Louis Cardinal replacements at RFK Stadium.
Washington Coach Joe Gibbs denied reports that the team is committed to keeping Robinson after the strike is settled.
