MULTIPLE-FAMILY HOUSING IN DECLINE

The number of permits for new multifamily housing units in Orange County issued during January, 356, was the lowest monthly total in more than 3 years. That number is also a 7% drop from the previous January. The most significant declines took place in the cities of Anaheim and Irvine. On the other hand, there was a large increase compared to January, 1988 in the number of such permits issued for projects in the county’s unincorporated areas.
