William J. Miller, 76, author of “The Meaning of Communism” for Time-Life Books and the biography “Henry Cabot Lodge,” published in 1967. A longtime journalist, he had been senior business writer for Time magazine, an editorial writer on Life magazine and chief editorial writer for the New York Herald Tribune from 1957 to 1959. In Gainesville, Fla., on Sunday after a stroke.
