College Roundup : 3 Victories Push CSUN Close to Title

The Cal State Northridge softball team advanced in the championship bracket of the Hayward Pioneer Classic by sweeping three games Friday.
The Lady Matadors will play two games today in search of the tournament title.
Northridge (29-12) usede Heather Lindstrom’s 10 strikeouts and Christine Miller’s two-run single in the fourth inning to edge Chico State, 3-2, in the first game.
In the second and third games, Matador ace pitcher Debbie Dickmann recored her 11th and 12th shutouts of the season.
Northridge defeated Humboldt State, 5-0, in the second game as Pam Smith was three for three.
Metro State (11-10) was Northridge’s final victim, losing 2-0.
In other softball games:
Moorpark 10, Santa Monica 0--Moorpark earned its 37th consecutive Western State Conference home victory behind a one-hitter by Rosa Jimenez (5-3).
Moorpark’s Chris Singer was three for four with four RBIs.
Canyons 13, Pierce 2--Canyons (12-12, 4-1) scored 10 runs in the first inning to blow open the WSC game. Michelle Ruffner pitched a three-hitter with seven strikeouts and no walks. Diana Franklin had a run-scoring triple in the first inning.
BASEBALL
Harbor 10, Mission 3--Pat Ahearn tossed a three-hitter to stifle host Mission (6-15, 4-6) in a Southern California Athletic Conference game.
MEN’S TENNIS
Orange Coast 6, Pierce 3--The Brahmas continued to struggle without their top two players, Steve Oliver and Sudantha Soysa, losing their second match after starting the season with eight wins.
