Mark Johnson, a part-time umpire in the American League since 1984, will join Dave Phillips’ umpiring crew, replacing Nick Bremigan, who died Tuesday of a heart attack.
Johnson, who lives in Hawaii, worked in the Pacific Coast League before joining the American League. He also worked in the Gulf Coast League, the Florida State League and the Southern League.
Since joining the American League, Johnson has split seasons between the majors and the minors, filling in for major league umpires on vacations.
