University of Colorado quarterback Sal Aunese’s stomach cancer is “inoperable,” according to Dr. Wayne Gersoff, an orthopedic surgeon and a team physician, but his age and good physical condition are factors in his favor.

The disease has spread to Aunese’s lymph nodes. Aunese will begin chemotherapy treatment next week.

Gersoff said Aunese has a “good-sized tumor.”
