Lighter winds helped firefighters get the upper hand on an 888-acre brush fire in the eastern Sierra that destroyed a house, mobile home and two small trailers, California Department of Forestry officials said. Firefighters hoped to thoroughly douse the flames by tonight. The blaze near Lone Pine was sparked Friday by wind-borne embers from an earlier fire.
