Local News in Brief : Jury Deliberating Blame in Jet Crash

Jury deliberations began Monday in the trial stemming from the worst air disaster in Los Angeles’ history, a 1986 collision between an Aeromexico jet and a light plane over Cerritos that killed 82 people.
The crash killed all 64 people aboard the DC-9, three aboard a Piper Archer and 15 others in the suburban neighborhood where the two planes slammed to the ground Aug. 31, 1986.
The 11-member jury may assign shares of blame to Aeromexico; the Piper Archer pilot, William Kramer, and the U.S. government, whose air traffic controller was supervising the jet’s descent. The decision will be binding only to Kramer.
Jurors deliberated five hours Monday and were to resume Tuesday.
