High School Roundup : Homers Lift Westlake to Victory Over Agoura

When Westlake High needed run production on Monday, the left side of its infield supplied it by planting two balls over the fence.
Westlake, behind a two-run home run by third baseman Chuck Foster and a solo shot by shortstop Mike Lieberthal, beat Agoura, 4-1, in a nonleague game at Agoura.
With Westlake leading, 2-1, Foster drilled a two-run home run in the sixth innning, his sixth of the season, leaving one shy of the school record for home runs in a season.
Lieberthal homered in the third.
Senior right-hander Dave Aronowitz (2-2), who allowed six hits, struck out one and walked three, homered in the fourth for the lone Agoura run. Zac Miller was two for three for Agoura (4-5).
Scott Lerner (1-1) finished with a five-hitter, walked one and struck out one for Westlake (7-7).
In other games:
Ventura 4, Camarillo 2--Ventura scored four runs in the fifth to erase a 1-0 Camarillo lead in a nonleague game at Ventura.
Ventura used a dropped third strike, three singles and a walk in the fifth-inning rally off Camarillo starter Vaughn Wechsberg (1-3).
Mitch King and A. J. Lindbloom drove in runs for Camarillo (9-6).
Channel Islands 12, Rio Mesa 2--Channel Islands, playing only its fourth game at home this season, got a two-run home run from John Johnson as part of a 10-hit attack to beat Rio Mesa.
Manuel Padilla, George Alvarado, David Lucio and Jim Davis combined on a five-hitter for Channel Islands (6-7), which will play its next eight games at home.
L.A. Baptist 12, Rio Hondo 10--Dan Shackelford was three for four with two doubles, a triple and five RBIs to lead L. A. Baptist in a first-round game of the Bel-Air Prep tournament at Rio Hondo.
Village Christian 23, Oakwood 2--Matt Smay had two home runs and four runs batted in, Scott Danielson had two home runs and three RBIs and Craig Hudspeth was three for three with seven RBIs--including a grand slam--in a first-round game of the Bel-Air Prep tournament.
Mike Curl also homered for Village Christian (8-3).
VOLLEYBALL
In boys’ volleyball, in three-game victories, Harvard defeated Notre Dame in a Southern Section match while in City Section play, Reseda defeated Birmingham, Sylmar defeated Grant and Taft defeated El Camino Real. In nonleague play, North Hollywood beat. Canoga Park, 15-7, 15-7, 15-5.
