IBM Introduces New Computers: International Business Machines Corp. said it added new models to its ES/3090 mainframe computer and ES/9370 minicomputer lines. The company said the new model ES/3090 380S mainframe is a three-way multiprocessor machine that can run 40% to 50% faster than the existing model 280S. IBM said the new ES/9370 model 25 is an entry-level minicomputer that can operate up to 150% faster than previous models. An improved version of ES/9370 model 50 is 25% more powerful than the original. IBM, the world’s largest computer maker, also introduced new software for both lines. IBM said it will stop selling ES/9370 Models 20 and 40 in July.
