Carl Karcher Enterprises: The Anaheim-based fast-food chain reported that profits jumped 30% to $21 million in fiscal 1989. Sales totaled $446 million, an increase of 21% over a year ago. The company attributed the strong performance to the success of new menu items, a major remodeling program and a “back-to-basics” strategy.
