Local News in Brief : Construction Blocks Bike Path
- Share via
A $400,000 project to repair restrooms at the beach in Redondo Beach and to expand the lifeguard station in Torrance has closed sections of the oceanfront bike path until June in those cities, officials said.
While the work goes on, the popular beachfront bicycle path has been blocked by barriers, which force bicyclists and joggers onto the sand. County officials want the work completed by June 1, ahead of the heavy summer beach season.
The run-down restrooms at Topaz Street and at Avenues C and G will be made accessible to the handicapped and fitted with new plumbing and fixtures.
The lifeguard station will get a second story to improve the lifeguards’ view of the beach. Additionally, deteriorating handrails in some sections along pedestrian walkways and stairways will be replaced with aluminum rails, county officials said.
