One man was fatally wounded and another was shot in the face outside of an apartment complex in San Juan Capistrano late Tuesday night, authorities said.
Sheriff’s Lt. Richard J. Olson said deputies arrived at the apartment complex on the 31000 block of Calle San Juan at about 10 p.m. Tuesday to find Juan Segura Pastrana, 29, of San Juan Capistrano and Timoteo Najers Diaz, 30, of Mexico near the bottom of the front stairs of the complex.
Olson said Pastrana was shot once in the upper chest and died a short time later at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo.
Diaz is listed in critical condition at the same hospital and is paralyzed from the neck down, according to hospital spokeswoman Mary Burnham.
Olson said that as of late Wednesday investigators did not know who fired the shots.
