Ruth Aguilar, a 5-foot-10 sophomore center who averaged 14.7 points to lead Valley College in scoring, has made an oral commitment to play basketball for Cal State Northridge.
Aguilar was selected co-most valuable player in the state and MVP of the Western State Conference.
Shagarro Lattin, a 5-9 sophomore forward who averaged nine points for Valley, has made an oral commitment to attend Point Loma Nazarene.
Former Valley player Bernadette Tillis has orally committed to Colorado State. Tillis, who spent the past year completing her degree, played point guard for the Lady Monarchs two seasons ago.
Freshmen Sandrine Rocher and Christine Rumfola were selected as Valley’s most improved players at the team’s awards banquet. Other award winners were: freshmen Karrie Parsons (most inspirational) and Tisa Rush (best defensive player). Lattin received the coaches’ award and Aguilar was MVP.
Junior Darcy Arreola won the 5,000 meters in 16 minutes, 59.27 seconds in the Sun Angel Invitational in Tempe, Ariz., on Saturday.
Arreola’s time qualified her for the NCAA Division II championships in Hampton, Va., in May and moved her into seventh place on the all-time Northridge list in the event.
