P. M. BRIEFING : Atlantis Casino License Denied

LAWRENCE, N.J. — The Casino Control Commission voted unanimously today to reject Elsinore’s Atlantis Casino Hotel application for license renewal, the first such denial in New Jersey’s decade-old casino industry.
Commission Chairman Walter Read said the financially troubled casino failed to demonstrate the financial resources, business ability or integrity to merit an extension of its license. The Atlantis license expires next Friday.
Elsinore Shore Associates is Atlantis’ parent company. The commission now has to decide what to do next with the Atlantis: close it down or appoint a conservator.
