From Times wire service s

CBS has bought the exclusive rights to Hedda Nussbaum’s life story and will produce a four-hour miniseries about her battered life with Joel Steinberg to be shown next season, it was reported today.

“I want it to be an honest and compelling account of who this woman is and what happened to her,” Andrew Lack, executive producer of CBS News’ “West 57th,” told the Daily News. Lack negotiated the deal, said to be worth less than $100,000, with Nussbaum’s lawyer.

Steinberg, the disbarred lawyer who was convicted of first-degree manslaughter in the fatal 1987 beating of 6-year-old Lisa, the couple’s illegally adopted daughter, was sentenced to 8 1/2 to 25 years in prison two weeks ago.
