Candidates and Propositions in Tuesday’s L.A. Election

I am a recent graduate of the California State University system. My first two years of general studies were completed at a community college. It is from this intimate perspective that I would like to voice my objections to your endorsements for the community college board positions.

How does the training and education of an attorney qualify someone to run a school district? You recommended attorney Rose Ochi based on her ability to “get things done” in the mayor’s office. What does this have to do with running our community colleges?

The other candidate, Mary Louise Longoria, seems far more qualified based on your description that she has “solid education credentials.”

Attorney Lindsay Conner runs unopposed for Office 4, and you endorse attorney Althea Baker for Office 6 over Patricia Hollingsworth, a teacher with good credentials, especially in the area of college financial management.

The time has come to remove the unqualified from important positions of leadership. We need trained educators running our community colleges--not attorneys.
